Supply and demand and competition will bring it down further, but, in Colorado at least, prices have dropped precipitously in the last year. I was reading last week that if California does pass Prop 19 and legalize it, the price would eventually drop to about $38/oz. Don't forget that these folks have overhead that people in the past didn't have to deal with. They pay rent, they have employees, they pay taxes and they spend money marketing their business and trying to stand out from the hundreds of other stores in the Boulder/Denver corridor. Personally, I'm more than willing to pay a decent, competetive market price for anything I consume.

Another great aspect is that there are so many different strains out there, and you can actually comparison shop for pot. You can take your time and touch it, smell it, look at the crystaline structure with a jeweler's loupe etc. You also have a pretty good idea of the genetics (assuming you are dealing with an honest shopkeeper) and the place I went to had written testimonials for every strain they offered.
